There is an issue I am learning about that stretches across the state; and probably across the country. Veterans throughout the year are seeking assistance with taking care of their lawn in the spring and summertime, and needing help with shoveling and plowing in the winter.
During a recent walk through of the cemeteries in Newbury there was something that was very unsettling. Several grave marker flags were on the ground covered in dirt from vehicles driving on them, and there was also several flags jammed in to trash barrels. This is not acceptable.
Recently we have found the sticks from grave marker flags on the ground next to the flag box. They don’t fit in the box and sometimes if they are forced in the box they get jammed. PROBLEM SOLVED!! Just swung by the flag box to empty it out. While there I ran into someone from Byfield who was stopping by to drop off some flags. They thank me for doing it and starting the box – informed me they collect all their friends old flags and brings them to the box.
