As the number of people with service dogs grow, so does the need for education on service dogs. For years dogs have been trained to provide a service to individuals with disabilities, to include guide dogs, hearing dogs, and mobility dogs. Today, dogs are being trained as service dogs for our veterans with who have PTSD and TBI (traumatic brain injury). As the use of service dogs are increasing I feel it is equally important to increase the education of service dogs.
The Gold Star Memorial Monuments are due to the hard work and dedication of Medal of Honor recipient Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams. Woody a retired United States Marine who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II. He is also the last surviving recipient of the Medal of Honor from that battle.
There is an issue I am learning about that stretches across the state; and probably across the country. Veterans throughout the year are seeking assistance with taking care of their lawn in the spring and summertime, and needing help with shoveling and plowing in the winter.
While this legislation will not be utilized as a primary insurance, it will address the several veterans every day that fall through the cracks with tragic consequences. This legislation will empower veterans to seek medical help themselves, which is one of the greatest current challenges facing the newest generation of veterans.
Just swung by the flag box to empty it out. While there I ran into someone from Byfield who was stopping by to drop off some flags. They thank me for doing it and starting the box – informed me they collect all their friends old flags and brings them to the box.

Homeless Veterans Christmas Gift 2014
Looking to provide a gift to a local homeless veteran shelter beyond the clothes that I was planning on donating. I held a few fundraisers to raise the cost of a suite at a Celtics Game. Working with the Celtics, the cost of the suite was reduce to $900, and most of that money was raised through an event held ata local Flat Bread Pizza Restaurant. As a result, a couple truck loads of clothing was delivered as well as tickets for 18 veterans to attend the game on January 5th 2015

Game Day Tickets / Food / Souvenir
What started as looking for a quote for cost of regular game day tickets, a soda, a food item, and a baseball cap. A phone call to the Red Sox opened up an unexpected door. Red Sox front office offered the Gosling’s Dark ‘N Stormy Boardroom, suite valued at $10,000. Plus, a food buffet that included a whole roasted pig, seafood, steak and more. The suite was stocked with soft drinks, peanuts and chips. Near the end of the game staff brought in trays of lobster rolls, hot dogs and cheeseburgers. All 13 veterans who attended left with to-go bags of food, and a Red Sox hat courtesy of the Boston Red Sox. Continue reading
People ask me, ‘Out of everything you do, what do you enjoy the most?’. My favorite thing and something I truly enjoy is being the Veteran Grave Officer for the Town of Newbury. The role, as outlined by M.G.L Chapter 115; Section 9, is more then just placing flags for Memorial Day.
